I talk a lot about nutrition here at Jessica Valant Pilates, and you all know how important I feel good vitamins are to improving our overall health.
Now that I’m 23 weeks pregnant, I continue to have a love affair with my vitamins. I’ve adjusted what I’m taking slightly, and filmed this short video to tell you about my favorite prenatal vitamins!
Prenatal vitamins are important for many reasons, some of which include:
Preventing birth defects – Taking the right amount of folic acid while pregnant has been proven to lower the chance of neural tube defects in developing fetuses.
Preventing nausea – This is a great reason in and of itself!
Helping keep mama healthy – You immune system is compromised when you are pregnant, which increases your chance of getting sick. I promise you that, while coughing is no fun at any time, it’s especially painful when pregnant! You want to stay as healthy as possible while you are pregnant.
Filling nutritional gaps – Taste buds and cravings change during pregnancy, and often times raw veggies and salads aren’t at the top of your favorite foods! When you are craving only peanut butter toast, a good prenatal vitamin can give you some of the vitamins and minerals you are missing.
Helping you get pregnant – If you start taking a prenatal vitamin before you are actually pregnant, you could be helping your chances of conceiving! (If you are trying to conceive, here are some additional tips that could help.)
Here is the direct link to the prenatal vitamins I take and love if you want to try them for yourself!
Remember, whether you are pregnant or trying to conceive, it’s important to take care of yourself and your future baby. Good quality prenatal vitamins are a key component to doing this!
